MANILA -- A pair of shocking results gave the PFF Women's League a great kickstart when they open the inaugural season Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
After a simple opening ceremony, OutKast forced heavy favorites FEU into a goalless stalemate, while UST recorded the first win of the season with a 7-0 thrashing of its alumni counterpart Fuego Espanya.
The runners-up of the Women's Open of the Pinas Cup gave Let Dimzon tactical fits althroughout the match in which they came close to scoring multiple times, with a first-half free kick that hit the crossbar the closest they came to score.
Aging Rubio's Golden Tigresses were the first big winners in the league launched as part of FIFA's Live Your Goals program, where forward Cherisa Lemoran bagged a first half hat-trick after Hazel Lustan scored the first-ever goal of the league just 13 minutes after it kicked off.
Lemoran scored two penalties in the 19th and the 30th minute before completing the trick five minutes later in which the Tigresses settled the match in a 4-0 half-time lead.
The Tigresses added three more in the second half courtesy of Christelle Cleofe, Bea Panganiban and Yvone San Diego to complete the rout.
PFF Secretary-General Atty. Ed Gastanes was delighted on how the day turned out to be historic for Filipina football, despite the fact that the Suzuki Cup trophy tour was simultaneously held at the same day.
"This is something that we control. And because of the limited time that we have, we have to finish the first round by February of next year, and this is the opportune time to kick-off," Gastanes said.
